5 Tips to Wash Your Hair Healthily
Maybe you realize, that keeping your hair healthy so it won't be damaged easily or to remove dandruffs, is not exactly a walk in the park.
Maybe you're desperate. In any case, just read the rest of this article to discover how.
Follow up:
1. Choose -- and be loyal to -- the right shampoo.
The main secret of keeping your hair healthy is to choose the right shampoo -- and stick to it.
The right shampoo is the shampoo that's formulated for your hair/scalp type. For instance, if your hair tends to get dry, use a "Dry Hair" shampoo, or a shampoo with "Extra Conditioner." On the other hand, if your hair tends to be oily, use an "Oily Hair" shampoo, and stay away from shampoos with too much conditioners.
After you find a shampoo that feels right on your head, the next point is of the utmost importance: DON'T change your shampoo! Why? Everytime you change your shampoo, your scalp must again re-adjust to the new shampoo. If you keep changing shampoos, it's like trying to shoot a moving target.
2. Wash your hair regularly -- but not every bath!
If you're late washing your hair, that means you let dirt & grime collect on your hair and scalp. This will irritate your hair follicles, and ultimately makes your hair unhealthy.
On the other hand, if you wash your hair too often, it will wash away the natural oil produced by the hair follicles, making your hair brittle and easily damaged.
Adapt your hair washing schedule to your activities. For instance, if you ride in an air-conditioned car to the office, and you work all day in an air-conditioned room, maybe washing your hair once every 3 days is enough. Conversely, if you travel a lot, and/or gets all sweaty every day (example: Riding a motor or an un-air-conditioned bus, or you're an athlete that practices every day), then washing your hair every evening may be necessary.
But in any case, don't wash your hair in the morning (right after you wake up), for not only it's not necessary, it may bring bad consequences to your hair.
3. Wash your hair the right way.
Not many people know how to wash their hair the right way. Here are some easy to follow steps.
Step 1: Do a "cleaning" wash
- Use a small amount of shampoo, maybe just half a teaspoonful.
- Wash your hair thoroughly; don't hesitate to "upheave" your hair.
- Don't worry if the lather is not rich.
- VERY IMPORTANT: Rinse thoroughly!
Step 1 aims to first remove all the 'heavy' dirt & grime stuffs from your hair, so that in the next step, the shampoo's nutrients can work more effectively.
Step 2: Do a "caring" wash
- Use somewhat more shampoo this time, maybe 1 teaspoonful.
- Once again, wash your hair thoroughly.
- Try to ensure that the lather reaches your scalp.
- After you have enough lather, KEEP IT THERE for about 2-3 minutes. This is to ensure that the shampoo's nutrients can be absorbed by the scalp, and also coat the hairs well.
- VERY IMPORTANT: Rinse really thoroughly!
Thorough rinsing at the end of Steps 1 and 2 are very important. Why? If you don't rinse your hair thoroughly, some shampoo lather may be left. This will irritate the scalp, which will produce dandruffs or flakes as a natural way to protect itself from irritating stuff (i.e. by 'ejecting' the affected outer skin layer).
When you do this 'right way' for the first time, you may feel your scalp to be somewhat warm. Don't be afraid; this is normal. The warmth is caused bye the shampoo working more effectively. Over time, you'll get used to it.
4. Dry your hair the right way.
Don't use a hair dryer to dry a thoroughly wet hair.
Use a clean towel first. Let the towel absorb the majority of the water droplets.
Use a hair dryer only to dry the leftover dampness. Even then, use the least hot setting.
Drying a really wet hair using a hair dryer may leave some shampoo molecules on your scalp or hair, and this may cause irritation, which then causes dandruffs/flakes.
5. Avoid gel/hair cream on oily hair.
Using gel/hair cream on oily hair may cause the hair follicles to be clogged up. This will cause irritation, which will produce dandruffs.
There. I've given you 5 tips to wash your hair. I hope these tips are useful for you, so that you may enjoy life better.
